Merry Christmas!

Good Afternoon Folks

I just wanted to wish all the readers of my blog a very merry Christmas and thank you so much for popping here to have a read of what I have been up to this year.  I hope you are all planning some time off to spend with family and friends.

This is the time of year to eat, drink and be merry!

Have a wonderful time and

It's Christmaaaaaaaaasssssss... in the great words of Slade!!!
If anyone is reading from abroad they were a band in the 1970's that produced
amongst other things quite an iconic Christmas song, so love it or hate it, it is here to stay.

I am posting a lovely wintry scene to get you all in a festive mood and I think that is the only snow I will be seeing over the festive period.

Gate Street Barn Bramley Surrey Wedding Photography - Kate and Jack: Surrey Wedding Photographers

Good Afternoon Folks,

On a cold, crisp morning where one could see one's breath and the skies were a vibrant blue, it was off to Gate Street Barn Bramley Surrey to meet Kate and Jack for their pre-wedding shoot.

We all had an early start as this venue is chocca block with bookings right through the winter season.  I was not disappointed as this venue has many beautiful features inside with lots of lovely scenery outside if the weather behaves itself on the day.  No matter because we will have fun whatever it decides to do.

I do love wandering around the venues with my Brides and Grooms because it gives me the chance to have a good chat about their photography, and it is often at these shoots where the seeds of some of my more avant garde shots are born!

Today I am posting five images; the first is a shot I always love, just wandering through our British lanes, the next two are portraits of Kate and Jack and I love these as they are really starting to relax in front of the camera.  Kate's parents also popped along for the shoot as they wanted to see the venue again, and yes I insisted they be in a shot ahead of the day.  Last but not least a moment looking at the wonderful countryside and I just love the richness of this image that is a combination of vibrancy in the sky, a winter landscape with a magical winter light.

I am nearly ready for Christmas, which probably explains the infrequency of my blog posts!  This time of year also has lots of deadlines within the business so I have been making sure that all those Christmas orders will be here in readiness for the big day.

Enjoy the last few days before eating, drinking and being generally merry...hick!

Claire :)

East Grinstead Portrait Photography - Izzy: West Sussex Portrait Photographers

Good Afternoon Folks,

Well as promised here is Izzy, who reminds me of Lady Sybil in Downton Abbey.  I thoroughly enjoyed photographing both Izzy and Sophie and we had great fun during the session.

I do love to get inspiration from people and places and to have Lady Sybil and Audrey Hepburn at the same time was a real treat!

Well the decorations are up in the Hill household and it really is beginning to look a lot like Christmas.  Slowly but surely the houses are being decorated with the most wonderful lights and it makes for an awesome sight at night.

Have a great week and catch up with you all soon.

2012 International Loupe Awards - Award Winning Photography West Sussex

Good Afternoon Folks,

Well more excitement ensues at Woodland Hill Photography and I am pleased to announce that I have won two bronze awards in the 2012 International Loupe Awards.

I am unable to share the imagery at this time as they were produced on a shoot that featured a well known person.  Emma Tindley Couture has been dressing this actress and the shoot has to be under wraps for the time being.  Emma was more than happy for me to enter the image into the awards and yet again the Hill/Tindley combo has come up trumps!

So today I am featuring the bronze badge to represent the two images, but just think of the anticipation when we can finally release the imagery!  This lovely actress is really well respected in the industry and was an absolute pleasure to photograph and we again had exclusivity, thanks to the wonderful Katie Ratcliffe at Wakehurst Place into areas that are not accessible to the public, so you can imagine my excitement!

Hope you are all having a great start to the week :)

East Grinstead Portrait Photography - Sophie: West Sussex Portrait Photography

Good Morning lovely ones in the world of blogs,

I recently had a fabulous portrait session with Sophie who as you can see is utterly gorgeous and a pleasure to photograph.

We had a few different things planned for the session but this one was my Audrey Hepburn inspired shot.  I felt that Sophie shared the same features as Audrey Hepburn and I think this image demonstrates it nicely.  I do love a good hat and this baby resides in the studio so you may see it popping up in various guises in the future!

Whatever you have in store for the rest of the week make sure you have fun.  I will be posting an image of Sophie's equally gorgeous Sister Issy soon, and she reminds me of Lady Cybil from Downton Abbey :)

Buxted Park Hotel Uckfield East Sussex Wedding Photography - Terrianne and Dan: East Sussex Wedding Photographers

Good Afternoon Folks,

I recently had a great pre-wedding shoot with Terrianne and Dan at the gorgeous Buxted Park Hotel, Uckfield, East Sussex.  As you can see from the images the weather was distinctly better that it has been this week!

When we arrived we were greeted by the wonderful Marc and the ladies were treated to a kiss on the hand!  He is the consummate gentleman and professional and he really could not have done more for us, so I am really looking forward to the big day.

We had the chance to explore the hotel fully and to be honest in order to make the most of its numerous features I think we would be looking at a two day photography marathon!  We have some images planned for the day and as usual this will be dependent on the weather, but needless to say I am excited!  I don't think that will come as a surprise to those who know me or have been photographed by me!

I am also looking forward to meeting Dylan, he sounds adorable and I think excitement will be in the air as it will be a truly festive wedding.

Enjoy your weekend folks; I hear mud skiing is all the rage now ;)

Look out next week for my Audrey Hepburn inspired image.

Ciao for now,

Claire :)

The Spa Hotel Tunbridge Wells Kent Wedding Photographers - Clare and Chris: Tunbridge Wells Kent Wedding Photography

Good Morning Folks,

As promised I am blogging about Clare and Chris' wedding Photography at The Spa Hotel in Tunbridge Wells Kent recently.

The day started in one of the gorgeous suites at The Spa Hotel in Tunbridge Wells and it was a haven of calm with a mixture of anticipation and excitement.  We had lots of fun capturing this time and then we headed downstairs to capture of images of the boys prior to their interview.  We then headed back upstairs (yup it had to be the stairs for the sake of a bit of exercise) to wait for Deniz to arrive to signal that Clare and her Father should make that final walk together.

The day was just lovely; Logan, Clare and Chris' gorgeous, impeccably behaved son executed his best man duties beautifully.  They must have been so proud and rightly so.

The day was cold, crisp and a bit wet underfoot so the photography took place in the hotel and we popped outside in the evening to capture a shot that we had been planning since I first meeting last year!  The first dance was lovely and after a quick run through behind the scenes it was then to create a sensation on the dance floor; well done gang you were great.

So for today's images I am posting an image taken outside under the lamplight and we all enjoyed the fresh air.  Secondly I just love the first kiss, such a romantic moment mixed with relief and I never tire of seeing it.  Last but not least the man himself, Logan looking proudly up and two very proud parents looking down; love it!

I am really looking forward to photographing more weddings at The Spa Hotel next year and if Deniz is in charge of the day it will all go swimmingly!

Enjoy your weekend folks; so how many of you are Christmas shopping?  I have definitely made a start on mine.

Suggestion Photography Tunbridge Wells Portrait Photographers - Clare: Tunbridge Wells Portrait Photographers

Good Morning Folks,

Ahead of Clare and Chris' wedding imagery I am posting some images from Clare's suggestion session that was a surprise for Chris on their wedding day.  It has been hard to keep it a secret as Clare looked fabulous!

As you can see from the imagery that I am posting, the sessions are about what you don't see and I want to echo the glamour Hollywood days of black and white photography and timeless beauty.

I am posting three images today and I think they speak for themselves; all black and white and Clare looks gorgeous in every one, to be honest it was a hard job to decide what not to put in the album.

Later in the week I will be blogging about their beautiful wedding day.

Brooklands Hotel Weybridge Surrey Wedding Photography - Katy and Andy: Surrey Wedding Photographers

Good Evening Folks,

I recently photographed the wedding in Surrey of Katy and Andy at Brooklands Hotel, Weybridge, Surrey.  On the morning of the wedding I started off in the boys room to witness first hand some topless ironing!  Now set up for the day it was off the the most amazing suite to photograph the girls.

I do love photographing the wedding day preparations and that air of anticipation and excitement is always just so lovely.  It was a hop, skip and a jump from the suite at Brooklands down to the ceremony room where Katy and Andy said their vows to each other.  There was some beautiful singing from a good friend before the newlyweds headed down the aisle.

The whole day was just beautiful; the weather behaved and much fun was had by all.  We had a good time at Mercedes World, which is nearby to Brooklands Hotel.  Andy's face was an absolute picture as he whisked his bride off in the TVR!  Mercedes World with the ANG and TVR's on his wedding day was just heaven for Andy.  I was also able to capture a few of the images that we had been planning on the pre-wedding shoot too.

Today I am posting three images; the first is a stolen moment and the look of love between Katy and Andy is just lovely.  Another confetti image and you just cannot beat a good confetti image.  Last but not least Katy in the TVR; happy days.  I am saving the other images for Andy to see first, his face is a picture!

I hope you had a fabulous bonfire night; my cats weren't too keen on it all and are extremely happy it is all over for another year.

Just to send shivers up your spine the countdown to Christmas has begun and this is one of my favourite times of the year.

Salomons Tunbridge Wells Kent - Emma and Patrick: Kent Wedding Photographers

Good Morning Folks,

Well it certainly was a treat to be back doing wedding photography at Salomons in Tunbridge Wells Kent. I had a great day photographing the wedding of Emma and Patrick; the wedding day started at Emma's Parent's house in Tunbridge Wells an area I know and love from my childhood days.  The house was calm and full of anticipation of the wonderful day that stretched ahead.   I then headed off to St Mary's Church Speldhurst Kent where the wedding was due to take place.  We had great fun photographing the boys and the wedding service was beautiful.  Patrick's Aunt gave a lovely sermon that was so personal.

In between bouts of rain we managed to get outside then it was off to Salomons Tunbridge Wells.  The evening was also very special as Emma's father and brother are part of a band called Rumour and they made a special appearance to play at the wedding.  They are fantastic so if you ever get the chance to see them it is well worth the effort.

So today I am posting four images, the first is of Emma and Patrick on the bridge; there was lots of dashing to a fro with brollies for these shots!  I do love a nice set of stairs and Salomons in no exception, so here is Emma wistfully gliding down them.  The third shot makes me laugh, as luck would have it the rain held off until the last shot and then it came down in torrents, to be honest it made for a wonderful photograph so for once the rain didn't ruin things! Last but not least the wonderful Rumour doing their 'thang'!

Have a great weekend and enjoy the fireworks; my cats are not sure what to make of them so I think they will be glad when it is all over.

East Grinstead Newborn Photography - Summer Lily: West Sussex Newborn Photography

Good Afternoon Folks,

They say variety is the spice of life, so I am thinking a little blog spice is in order today in the form of some newborn photography taken in our very own East Grinstead.

You met Summer Lily as a bump last week and she was being cuddled by her Sister.  Now meet Summer Lily and welcome to the world!  It is so exciting when I get to meet the gorgeous baby behind the bump and Summer did not disappoint.  We had a wonderfully calm session and I have chosen some close ups to show you today.

Ideally newborn photography is best when your little 'Bubs' is 1-2 weeks old.  Once that time has passed the newborn stage begins to pass and your little one starts to gain more strength so some of the chilled out newborn poses become a little more difficult to achieve.  Not impossible but this stage passes so quickly it would be a shame to miss having a record of that special newborn time.

I just love this first image; Summer is full of contentment and peace.  The second is of her little teddy bear and she is holding him so tightly as she sleeps the sleep of the peaceful.  Lastly and warm black and white image of one chilled little girl!

I hope you all had a great weekend; Autumn is truly upon us now so do you have anything spooky in store for this week?

Claire :)

Salomons Venue Wedding Photography - Karen and Chris:Tunbridge Wells Wedding Photographers

Good Morning Folks,

I recently photographed the wedding of Karen and Chris at the gorgeous Salomons in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.  This venue has popped up on a number of occasions here recently and I never tire of going there.

The day was absolutely scorching and hotter than many of our summer days, so it was wonderful to be able to photograph the wedding ceremony outside.  Terry the ring bearer was waiting in the wings for his big entrance during the service and he was winched down to some James Bond music to deliver the said rings; love it!

The day was full of fun and emotion; Karen delivered two very moving speeches to both her Husband and her Parents; yup I was blubbing!

Today I am posting three images; the first is of Chris looking most dapper and 'cool', I am using cool to describe his status rather than temperature, because he did not feel cool all day!  The second is of a tender moment at dusk and finally some drama with Karen on the steps; you can't beat a bit of dramatic photography at a wedding!

Have a great weekend folks, for me I have a wedding and a busy day of portraits.  How nice to see the colours turning but I cannot believe that we are almost in November already and this year seems to have whizzed by.

2012 Master Photography Diamond Jubilee Awards

Good Morning Folks,

What a whirlwind weekend it has been; Saturday I was photographing a lovely wedding in Tunbridge Wells, Sunday I was exhibiting at The Spa Hotel in Tunbridge Wells and after a dash to the airport on Sunday night I was at the 2012 Master Photography Diamond Jubilee Awards in Newcastle!

Just to give you a little background; the Master Photography Awards are held once a year in Newcastle; members and non-members are invited internationally to submit prints for judging during the summer and these prints are judged in August.  Finalists are notified sometime in September and the top five for each category and then the winner is announced at a glitzy awards ceremony in October.  The evening started off with a champagne reception where all the finalists' prints could be viewed, and I only just made the last five minutes of this due to flight delays.  It is then on to the serious stuff but before that begins there was a delicious three course meal, which for me was most welcome after a busy weekend.

I still cannot quite believe it, but I had four images in the finals!  The first category of mine to be announced was the David Mathias Portrait Award and you could have knocked me down with a feather when I discovered that both of my images had made the top five; you can only imagine the surprise when I was announced as the winner!  I went to collect a very lovely trophy and my Awards of Excellence certificate for the other image.  As this is the diamond jubilee year for the Master Photographers Association all winners were presented with a beautiful MPA silver badge.

The second category of mine to be announced was the Dennis Hylander Wedding Award; more knocking down with feathers to come because the judges had only nominated two images to go forward and not five; both of them were mine!! So I won the category and received the only Award of Excellence in that category too.  I had another little jaunt on the stage to receive another lovely trophy and Award of Excellence certificate.

It has been quite a year for me but the one person apart from my poor long suffering Husband, who quite frankly should be nominated for some sort of sainthood, is my poor long suffering mentor Kevin Pengelly.  He runs a very successful photography business with his wife Sabrina in Suffolk; he is  a double Fellow with many, many awards of his own in recognition of his amazing imagery.  When I first went to see him; I did not think much of myself or my work, but it was him who saw something in there and helped me to nurture the style that I knew I was working towards but could not quite grasp.  He had confidence in me and it was this confidence that gave me the courage to forge ahead.  Mentoring is a very special skill indeed,  not only do you have to be one amazing photographer with faultless knowledge of technique and light, but you have to posses the personality to critique effectively without destroying that person.  You need to be able to guide them but not hand hold them, as one of the most important parts of mentoring is to allow that person to make their own discoveries.  Kevin possesses all these qualities and I am quite humbled that both he and Sabrina give up so much of their time for me and the other photographers he mentors.  Kevin I know what you will say, but I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart; mere words are not enough to express my gratitude; thank you!

So what images won?  Well here they are in the order they were awarded and I just want to thank everyone who was a part of the imagery, without you there would have been nothing to submit.

WINNER DAVIS MATHIAS PORTRAIT AWARD
This image was taken on the Emma Tindley Couture 2012/2013 Shakespeare in Love Collection shoot at the very beautiful Wakehurst Place.  India our model who co-owns Maids to Measure was wearing Emma's Portia Dress and Alison J Smith was the creator of India's divine hair an make-up.  I also have other images of an amazing combination of Designer bridal wear and bespoke bridesmaids' dresses. We probably had at most 2 minutes to capture this image!

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE DAVID MATHIAS PORTRAIT AWARD
This image was taken in the studio and features Brooke who was giving her unborn Sister Summer Lily a cuddle.  We had a lovely time that day and I have since photographed Summer.  Next year is going to be a special one for the family as Mummy and Daddy are getting married, so lots to look forward to at their wedding.

WINNER DENNIS HYLANDER WEDDING AWARD
This image was taken just after the wedding service in the Orangery at The Spa Hotel in Tunbridge Wells, Kent; this venue has a lovely mix of classical and modern so there is plenty of variation to suit most couples.  The image looks so serene but again we had probably at best two minutes to capture this image; at the sides of this room was the amazing Deniz and the brilliant hotel team waiting to create the reception room.  Donna, Craig and I had loads of fun that day; again thank you for being magnificent.

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE DENNIS HYLANDER WEDDING AWARD
Last but certainly not least; South Lodge Hotel, Lower Beeding West SussexThis image was taken in one of the bridal suites and I love it because Heather and Roy had some quiet time together and they could really take in this wonderful environment.  The viedographer, my assistant and me were 'wowing' all over the place and to be honest I could have photographed in there for hours; the only downside being that their wedding would have turned into a 3 day photography marathon if I wanted to utilise everything this venue had to offer!

Just one more image before I go; a rare picture of me and the President of the MPA Hoss Mahdavi with said trophies and certificates.  The look I was going for was eccentric dog's dinner; I think I managed to pull it off :)))!

I hope you enjoy the imagery and again just big, big thanks to all those involved, my Husband and my Mentor.

The Spa Hotel Tunbridge Wells Kent Wedding Photography - Clare and Chris: Tunbridge Wells Kent Wedding Photographers

Good Morning Readers,

I hope this post finds you well and today I am taking you back a few weeks to a sunnier time where the sky was blue and the air was warm!

I had a lovely pre-wedding shoot with Clare, Chris and their son Logan at The Spa Hotel, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.  It truly was a balmy day and we really enjoyed wandering around the hotel grounds.  For me it was good to photograph in familiar surroundings and we  have discovered some new and lovely little spots that I hope to be able to use on their big day.  Clare and I seemed to have this understanding of which Clare/Claire was being referred to and when; if any more Clare/Claire/Clair's arrive on the day things could get confusing!

Logan was using Dad's camera and was quite the little photographer; I am sure I caught a sneaky commando role when he was taking one of the shots :)

So today I am posting four images; the first is the three of them just chillin' on a Sunday afternoon, I just love the next one of Logan and it is going to be a treat to photograph him again on the big day.  This one of Clare got me right there when I took it and last but not least Chris beaming at his beautiful fiancée and handsome son.

I hope you are having a great week all; it has been a bit of a busy one for me and yesterday I was on a very special location shoot; it's all a bit secret at the moment but all will be revealed soon.

Brooklands Hotel Weybridge Surrey Wedding Photographers - Katy and Andy: Surrey Wedding Photographers

Good Morning Folks,

I recently had a fun pre-wedding shoot with Katy and Andy ahead of their wedding at the very art decoesque Brooklands Hotel, Weybridge Surrey.

This hotel is full of strong architectural features and is going to make for a some super images on the day.  We have one or two plans up our sleeves, but as usual this will be entirely dependant on the conditions that we have once the big day arrives.

As you can see from these images the sky was a vibrant blue and it was lovely to be out in some warm enveloping autumn sunshine after such a wet summer.  We had a peek at the bridal suite and oh my what an amazing space!

Today I am posting three images; the first is Andy looking resplendent amongst some very strong architecture; this whole image screams drama to me.  Next we soften things up a bit amongst the tall grass as Andy and Katy are having a little moment together.  Finally we made use of the mirrored bar; I do love the way the speckles on the mirrors have given this image an interesting texture.

It was lovely to have a few days off last week and I spent a few hours wandering around with my camera trying my hand at a little street photography.  The summer has been extremely busy so it was nice to just stroll, observe and take some imagery of life!

I hope this blog finds you all well and looking forward to catching up with you all soon.

Wakehurst Place Ardingly West Sussex Photographers - Kew at the Movies

Good Afternoon Folks,

I had a real treat recently when we went to Wakehurst Place to see The Kings Speech.  I have never seen a film outside before and it was really good.

We arrived just before dusk and Wakehurst takes on another magical beauty at this hour; people were already here with their picnics and drinkies.  There were plenty of places to buy yummy things too so everything had been thought about.  Free popcorn and coffee was provided, which I thought was a lovely touch then as the skies darkened the anticipation rose and then we were off!

I was a very pleasant evening; the picture and sound quality was superb so if they are holding another one definitely pop along as it was great fun.

Hope your week is going well and I have another Salomons wedding to show you soon.

Felbridge Hotel Wedding Photography East Grinstead West Sussex - Shelley and Matt: West Sussex Wedding Photographers

Good Morning Folks,

I recently photographed the wedding of Shelley and Matt and The Felbridge Hotel, East Grinstead,  West Sussex.  The weather gods were looking down on us that day as there was not a drop of rain in sight, so we were able to have a good old wander amongst the grounds.

The day started at Shelley's Mum's house and she had prepared the most amazing buffet I have seen and was still looking gorgeous and unflappable so a big thumbs up from me. It was then off to The Felbridge where Paul Smith the Toastmaster and Ami were ensuring everything was perfect for Shelley's arrival.

We all had great fun during the day and I always love the banter I have with Paul; it really does make for a very happy atmosphere.

I am posting five images today; the first is my Grease inspired shot and it was great to be able to re-create this again on their big day; I just love the second one of Shelley, she looks so sassy here it is brilliant.  There was another shot I had planned, which was completely weather dependent and we did it; this one is just for Matt though!  I have included a little sneaky peek of Elegant Stationery's fantastic work and I always love a wedding where her beautiful artistry is displayed.  It was good to be outside and seeing Shelley and Matt having a moment together.  Last but not least the great man himself, Paul Smith dispelling the myth that Toastmasters are stuffy; he does make me laugh and I think Matt's Granny took a shine to him too!

I made a comment on my personal facebook page this week at how dark the mornings are getting; I can really feel Autumn arriving now.  The seasons are so lovely and I think I would be a bit bored if nothing changed during the year.

Have a great day folks and will be in touch next week.
